You’re Invited

26 Aug

Please come party with me!

They’ll be music and dancing and cupcakes and snacks and party hats and of course, ME!

If you’re free that day and looking for a good time (hehe), we’d love to have you. I never know who’s up for the drive to good ole’ Lima.  Just let my Mommy know so she can make enough cupcakes–I’d hate for their to be a shortage on cake!

Matthew’s Baptism

29 Feb

Doesn’t he look dapper in his baby-man suit?  Too bad it didn’t fit. Even though it was 18-24 mo. size and fit a month ago when I ordered it.  I decided to wait until we got to the church to change him so he didn’t spit up all over it, and because it was thin and I didn’t want him to freeze.  We walked in literally a minute before the baptism was about to begin because I couldn’t get the thing snapped.  He has ginormous thighs.  I was shoving his little booties on during the first part of the ceremony. Gah!  I felt like a disheveled mess, but hopefully it didn’t show too bad.  Maybe the priest was having the same kind of day–he refused to bless the water because “it’s been here awhile and I’m sure it’s been blessed a few times.”  He also mixed our names up.  I’m 2 for 2 with priests mixing my name up during important ceremonies. Ha!

I finally got the invitations out about a week and half beforehand…sadly, I ordered invitations in December–December!  Then we had to change the date.  Then I had the bright idea of just modifying the existing invitations by printing labels.  Then the labels got packed in the move.  Then I just hunkered down and redesigned and printed them at home.  Should have done that weeks ago…

Thankfully, the weather cooperated and everyone was able to make it to Lima.  It was actually a pretty nice day considering it’s February.

He cried.  I really didn’t want him to cry.  It was my only concern.  I mean, come on.  Who wants their kid to cry while being given to Jesus?  To his credit, the priest did pour it in his eyes.  But Matty squirmed. Or maybe I almost dropped him. Or both.  I was trying to hold a 23 lb. baby in an awkward position.

Matty with his Godparents. Kind of.  Eric’s sister, Amy, is Matthew’s godmother, and my brother, Jason, is his Godfather.  But my brother, who is an officer in the Salvation Army, had a big meeting for his own church and couldn’t make it down (over?) that day. It was our fault–we had to reschedule it.  So we made Amy’s fiance, David, stand in.  Welcome to the family, Uncle David!

Matthew’s Great-Grandparents (Eric’s Grandmother and Grandfather).  So happy they were able to make it up.

My parents.  Guess I know where I get my aversion to having my picture taken…This was the best one with them. Ha!

Matthew with Eric’s parents

Matthew with his Uncle Dannel, his “Honorary Godfather” and football coach.  He’s thinking, “Uncle Dannel, why didn’t you shave for my Baptism day?”

Matthew’s favorite party people.

I think mah arms where falling off by this point…Poor kid.  I’m pretty sure Matty was done with the pictures, too.  He was thinking, “I know there’s a cake and tons of food coming sometime.  I helped Mommy make it.  Where is it?”

My parents were happy to be there, I think?  Maybe my Mom is practicing her gansta pose?

Only picture we got with the hat!  The hat! It made the outfit. So stinkin’ cute.

Afterwards, we all went back to our house for lunch.  I made a meat and cheese tray, a veggie tray, crockpot mac and cheese, and had pretzels and chips.  I also made entirely too much cake.  Apparently a 3-layer 12 x 12 raspberry-filling cake was too much for 20-something people. Oh well.  I ate cake for breakfast the next day politely threw it away and stuck to a healthy diet.

Sorry for the horrible, horrible picture.  Between bad lighting and half-dead camera batteries this is all I got.

Thankfully, we don’t have furniture in the family room yet, so it was easy to just throw up two folding tables, a tablecloth, and few decorations.  It’s amazing what a couple rolls of $1.88 ribbon from Wally World can do!

I sent Eric out for a bouquet of white flowers.  A small one.  Just a couple of carnations really.  He came back with 5 bouquets…There’s a vase of flowers in every room, I think.  I won’t complain though–they made a nice centerpiece.

Making everything the day before really worked out well.  It took about 10 minutes to get everything set up after getting back from the church.  That left plenty of time for cuddles with Matty!

(Will you rock me to sleepy, Grandma Thome?)

A HUGE thanks to everyone who thought of Matty and brought/sent a card or gift.  Seriously, this kid is blessed.  I think his favorite gift was a waterglobe from Grandma Lisa.  He LOVES listening to the music.  Though he was really excited at first when he thought it was some sort of food…

He also got a personalized bible, a children’s bible, a Noah’s Ark story, a variety of Easter books, a homemade soft book, a silver personalized picture frame, a silver spoon and cup, and some dollars for his piggy bank (I swear, he’ll be prepared for a zombie apocalypse or an asteroid hitting the moon–he’s the only one in the house with cash! 🙂 )

Tales From the Crib: Week 22

20 Feb

Hey, Hey.  It’s me. Baby Matty. On time and with a rhyme.  That’s right—we’re working on rhymes.  We watched a movie about rhyming words and Mommy has been reading me stories that rhyme.  Even Daddy had gotten in on the action by chanting rhyming words over and over—it makes me giggle (mostly because Daddy must have missed “Rhyming Day” in Kindergarden and not all of his words rhyme…).

We’ve also been working on colors and reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  Mommy says I’m almost old enough for storytime at the library and she started an “Enrichment Activity” board on Pinterest, so I think my life is about to get a lot more, um…interesting (or should I say PINteresting? Hahhahaha…ok, I’m done.)

I did have a fun week this week!  It was Valentine’s Day! Did you know about Valentine’s Day?! Huh, did you?  It’s a day all about love—to show your friends and family how much you love and appreciate them.  And Cupid comes.  And leaves presents under the Valentine’s Day tree.  Oh, you didn’t know that? Well, that’s what happens at my house.  Mommy said next year I will be old enough to make a Valentine’s mailbox and cards for everyone, but this year, we just made one for Daddy.  It was a manly card—no pink and red flowery crapt here.  (Oh, sorry.  Mommy said I’m not supposed to say ‘crapt’.)

Do you want to read about our presents?  Mommy got beautiful flowers.  They were delivered on Monday (instead of Tuesday on Valentine’s Day).  Mommy said this is because Daddy is smart enough to know she would be mad if he paid Valentine’s Day shipping prices.

Daddy got a squirrel feeder and a bag of squirrel peanuts.  We have lots of squirrels in the neighborhood, and Daddy has a mission to let them all live in our yard.

Grandma sent me a Valentine card and some dollars for my piggy bank.

And I got a new bowl!

(Ohhh…you’re going to put something IN it.)

(What the crapt is this?! )

(Aww, come on, Mom.  You’re killing me.  Where’s the turkey and stuffing?  Where’s the pumpkin pie?)

Mommy said since I’m able to sit up by myself now, I’m all ready for big boy food!  We’re doing Baby-led Weaning, so I get to eat pretty much whatever Mommy and Daddy are eating.  So far, I’ve had cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, BBQ ribs, peaches, applesauce, apples, pretzels, bananas, pineapple, green beans, and lemon.  Whew,  I’m a well-diversified eater!  I really like broccoli, apples, green beans and lemon, but I don’t like peaches or applesauce.  Mommy said that I’m silly and that of course I don’t like the stuff I’m SUPPOSED to like.  Of course, all of that stuff doesn’t actually make it in my tummy, but I like to taste it and play with it.

Speaking of playing, I’ve been doing a lot of that!  I’m rolling over like a champ.  I can sit up for awhile if Mommy or Daddy sit me up; I even got to ride in the big-boy cart at Hobby Lobby this week.

I can stand up holding onto something for a long time, too.

My Jumperoo is still my favorite toy,  but I also really like Baby Olly, my teddy bear, my Mozart Music Cube, and these tiny bathtub squirty toys (that I play with outside of the bathtub).  I LOVE bathtime and I’m trying to sit up in my tub instead of recline, which is apparently making it a bit hard for Mommy to keep me safe and get me clean.  I’ve also been Skyping with Aunt Amy and Grandma & Grandpa.  I don’t quite understand how they make themselves little enough to fit into my TV though…

I haven’t given an update on sleep in awhile, mostly because nothing had changed. Well, I’m happy to report there’s been a change! No, no.  I’m not sleeping in my crib…come on,  that’s crazy-talk.  No, I’m now officially going to sleep around 8:30 and waking up at…drumroll, please…7:00.  Mommy LOVES it.  Please note the sarcasm.  And oh no, I’m not sleeping through the night; I’m still waking up every 2-3 hours.  I’m a growing lad and I need mah food!

Oh, and did you do the math?  I’m officially 5 months old.  Old man, here.  Mommy and Daddy truly are shocked at how old I am already.  The last couple of months have flown by and Mommy says it’s probably only going to go faster from here on out.

Look! More cute pictures of me:

(I’ll be auditioning for Mission Impossible IV next week.)

And I got in a fight with an elephant this week.  It was a tie.

{I’m Stampin’ Up; I Want the World to Know}

24 Feb

Got to let it show.  A little Diana Ross, anyone?  Every time I hear this song (albeit with “Comin’ out instead of Stampin’ Up; come on, Diana Ross wasn’t a scrapbooker), I think of that Levi’s commercial with all the singing belly buttons.  Yep, that’s what I think about in my spare time…

But, nope, I’m not coming out…or showing my singing belly button.  I’m enjoying some wonderful new Stampin’ Up products.  I had a Stampin’ Up party this month.  Because I was the hostess (with the mostess), and because of their wonderful Sale-a-bration special, I scored some great FREE products.  Pyramid scheme (ouch, I said it!), or not, I feel that I got a pretty fantastic deal.

For the run-down:

Picture This (free hostess gift)

Good Neighbors (free Sale-a-bration)

Fox and Friends ($14.95)

Stampin’ Spots-Earth Elements (free hostess gift)

Stampin’ Spots-Soft Subtles ($22.50)

Ink Pad (free hostess gift)

Stampin’ Write Marker ($2.95)

Sizzix Die (free hostess gift)

8 1/2” x11” Paper-Soft Subtles ($7.95)

Brads ($2.95)

Best of all?  A couple of orders came from people who have never scrapped before!  Yay, for sparking creativity.

One downside?  Their so called “clear mount stamps.”  Yes, they go on a clear block.  No, they are not clear.  It’s a rubber stamp, with a clear window cling-y type sticker on top, that sticks (somewhat) to a clear mount block.  I was pretty disappointed, until I used it.  Their stamps and ink go on so well, that I didn’t have to worry about uneven coverage on the stamp.  And because they’ve switched over to the stamps coming perforated to punch out, instead of having to cut them out (used to HATE that), the mount on the clear block does allow for accurate placement.  I will buy them again, so I suppose it’s not that bad.

Too bad I’ve already thought of some more things that I want…party in March anyone?!
